Hanna Beth Schools Us On Dating And Style

If you want to learn how to be a man, we recommend you talk with Led Stroud. If you’re looking to start a successful business, Carol Roth is our goto business expert. However, when it comes to style advice, we’re a little partial to model and fashion blogger, Hanna Beth Merjos.

Hanna is extremely popular in the fashion scene, and she is also engaged to actor, Chris Zylka, so she knows a thing or two about how to make a relationship work. What else does Hanna know that you may not? Well, we’re glad you asked:

Urbasm: What have you been up to Hanna?

Hanna Beth: I recently did a campaign for Kangaroo, Mike Miller, and then I’ve been working with my mom at the clothing line called Sober is Sexy, so we have been busy with that. I also did a shoe collaboration with YRU, and then there is my fashion blog.

Urbasm: What are the top three items on your bucket list right now?

HB: I want to travel out of the country more. I want to go back to London and Tokyo. Those are my favorite places. Second would be to have my own clothing line. Something like a more high-end clothing line. The third would be to do another big billboard campaign.

Urbasm: Have you done a billboard before?

Hanna Beth Billboard

HB: I did one for Forever 21, which is in Times Square. But I’d love to have one on the Sunset Strip.

Urbasm: What would you say are the basic types of guys, according to fashion, and which ones get the most attention from women?

HB: I think it is different for all women. It just depends on what type of guy you like. For me, I like a guy who is into fashion. Like my fiancée, he is very into the oversized t-shirts and skinny pants. I like all the layers. I guess it just depends on what you like. Everyone is so different and diverse.

Urbasm: So every guy’s style probably has a girl to fit him?

HB: Yes, definitely. But I don’t like sandals. That is a big turn-off.

Urbasm: No sandals. So what are five items that every guy should have in his closet?

HB: A plaid button down; like a vintage over-sized one. A black hoodie and some black skinny jeans. A pair of boots, like Doc Martens or something. And a good basic white t-shirt, like Alexander Wang, or a company with a good fit.

Urbasm: What happens if you get the cheap white t-shirts?

HB: There are some cheap ones that fit okay.

Urbasm: It is probably better to be safe than sorry. So, how do you recommend a guy to dress up his suit with a bit of an edge, but still remain classy?

HB: I think it is good if he gets his tailor to fit him with a more skinny fit. I like it when guys wear more of an edgy wild button down shirt underneath, whether it is like leopard or like a crazy polka-dot. Just something fun, because it adds a little bit so it is not so traditional.

Urbasm: So the shirt would be the only part with flash? What about the socks?

HB: Yeah, he can have a fun pair of socks too (laughs).

Urbasm: What kind of fashion gifts can a guy get for a girl and almost never go wrong with?

HB: I don’t know if this counts as fashion, but I feel like if guys give girls perfume he can never go wrong. I think every girl likes perfume—and good pajamas (laughs).

Urbasm: We’d like to get your opinion for some of our readers. Let’s say you notice a guy checking you out, but when he realizes you’re onto him, he looks away. What can you suggest to these guys to muster the courage to approach women?

HB: You only live once, and you should just go over there and do it. Because the worst thing that can happen is that she is going to reject you, and that is not the end of the world. I know a lot of people are shy and intimidated, but if you are into someone and you are attracted to them… go for it.

Urbasm: Have you ever had to approach a guy in that situation?

HB: When my fiancée and I first met, he was very standoffish. So, I went up to him at a holiday party and I gave him my number (laughs), and then we started hanging out. I made the first move.

Urbasm: So sometimes women have to take the first step?

HB: Especially in LA where everyone is in their own head, and more shy. They are not as eager to approach you.

Urbasm: Women seem to comment that a lot of guys don’t know how to take a hint. If a guy comes on too strong, how would most women give him the hint?

Hanna Beth - wild child

HB: I think some of the hints would be not returning calls, or not making plans to hang out with him again right away is definitely a sign. Being overly busy all of a sudden, if she weren’t busy before. Not as affectionate. Taking more space, I guess.

Urbasm: What are three things that every guy should know, according to Hanna?

HB: One, don’t wear sandals. Two, there is no point in lying to a girl because she usually knows you’re lying. If you are dating someone, and you’re close; girls know you pretty well by that point and we’re smart, so I just feel like it is pointless. If you are willing to lie to someone or cheat on them, then you probably shouldn’t be with them anyway. Third, when you are dating someone, treat her like a princess. When you take her out on a first date, some guys expect you to split the bill. I’m old-school and think guys should be treating the women if they are the ones taking them out.

Urbasm: We couldn’t agree more.
