Every Girl is Crazy About a Man in Black

A man in black cries mystery, danger (think, Indiana Jones), class, determination, and power. Lucky for you, these all drive the ladies crazy. However, before you grab a black pair of cargo’s and your old Black Sabbath t-shirt, you should know that there are a few rules that can make or break your ensemble.

Rule #1: Black Likes to Mix it Up- You don’t want your black to match completely (black leather jacket/black leather pants, etc.). This means you should combine different textures together, which will allow the light to play off the fabric in different ways, giving your silhouette shape and interest. Too much black of the same kind will wash you out, making you disappear in the background, rather than stand out.

Rule #2: Diluted Black Looks Like Sludge- A crisp black shirt has a certain sheen that glimmers in the lights of a night club. A faded black shirt looks dull, lifeless, and boring. Wash your black colors in cold water with a liquid detergent (rather than powder), and once they start to fade, throw them out, or give them to your brother.

Rule #3: Black is Not a Cover-Up- It is common knowledge that black can work as a cover-up for a body that hasn’t seen the gym for a while. However, it is a big mistake to wear baggy black, hoping to double up on the concealing effect. The whole point of rocking a black outfit is to offer a sleek silhouette for the women to admire, and fantasize about. If you are planning on wearing an entire ensemble of black, consider buying one-size smaller than you usually do.

Rule #4: Black Looks Great With Just About Anything, Except Brown Shoes and White Socks- Unless you’re planning on being Michael Jackson for Halloween, white socks look terrible with black pants. And if you really want to make sure that you go home alone, combine those white socks with a pair of light-brown loafers.
