McLaren 650S: The Supreme Successor of the MP4-12C

This is the McLaren 650S… It is not only lighter and more aerodynamic that the old MP4-12C… it is a lot faster. By faster, I mean it now has an additional 25 horsepower (641 hp), and 58 lb-ft (500) of torque. It is also said to be more ‘comfortable,’ which means it could be one of the first classy women, built for both speed and comfort.

McLaren says they have listened to customer and media critique, and have come back with the ultimate all-engine supercar. I say, ‘all-engine,’ as the 650S does have one small flaw. It has no electric motor to substitute for the turbo lag coming from its twin turbo 3.8-liter V8. This is a flaw that the P1 hybrid does not share with the 650S. However, we will forgive them, as the price is also several hundred thousand less.

We wondered what it would be like to drive this new breed of MP4-12C, and Chris Harris of /Drive was more than happy to show us:
