Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, (a.k.a. “America’s Rabbi”) is host of the TLC show, Shalom in the Home, is a best-selling author (The Broken American Male, Honoring the Child Spirit, and Kosher Sex), and is a very cool guy to sit down and chat with should you ever have the opportunity.

We had the pleasure to catch up with him while he was in Florida one afternoon, in between appointments. We didn’t waste any time, and went straight for our biggest question.

Rabbi, what do you think are the three most important things that every guy should know?

Have Conviction– Having strong convictions is critical for a man. If you don’t have that, you don’t have an identity. You define yourself by your profession. You become a workaholic. It leaves you cynical, and you will have nothing warm to offer other people.

Be a Blessing to Those Around You– Happiness comes from having relevance, purpose, and impact. From the time we are born, men have to excel at sports, school, and their job. How much of oneself can you carry on your own shoulder. Being a blessing to others liberates men from this singular self focus.

Learn to Live with the Woman You Love- I think men spend a lot of time combating loneliness, isolation, ordinariness, and conscious rejection. Men, don’t retreat to your cave. Instead, learn to be intimate with the woman you love. Men need a woman to teach them access to the tender parts of their heart. There is a feminine dimension to life that makes every man whole.
